The slow start

Chris Taylor’s 2017 breakout was a huge part of the Dodgers’ 104-win season. Being the primary leadoff hitter, his struggles to start this year contributed a bit to Los Angeles’ struggles, too.

He did post a .192 ISO off the strength of 4 home runs, but his .232/.271/.424 triple slash and 90 wRC+ left a lot to be desired.

The recovery

That on-base percentage of Taylor’s has improved to .424 heading into Friday’s action, which has happened thanks to an increased walk rate (5.3% to 16.5%), line-drive rate (23.7% to 34.8%), and hard-hit rate (30.1% to 36.2%). This shift in production has led to a 150 wRC+.

He’ll just have to figure out a way to carry his success at home (156 wRC+) to games on the road (74 wRC+).
