Claudio Vargas fanned 11. The Brewers’ got 15 hits…and the Crew, despite a bizarre 5th inning run with 3 errors on a single play, came away with the 7-3 victory over the Pirates Wednesday night. I turned on the game just in time to catch the error riddled play–first, Vargas’ toss to first baseman Damian Miller went awry…actually, Miller just took his eye off the ball for a second, and it rolled passed him, allowing Pirate runner Chris Duffy to move to second. Vargas tried again, this time the pickoff attempt got by second baseman Rickie Weeks and went into centerfield…where Bill Hall booted the pickup, enabling Duffy to round third and score. Hall more than made up for it, however, with his 3-for-4 night, including a 2-run homer to start things off…Hall later drove in and scored another run. Tonight’s game pits Zach Duke against Jeff Suppan at 7:05 CT.
