Somehow the Cardinals have managed to lose 22 out of 37 games played in Busch Stadium so far in 2016.
There are only 2 teams in the Major Leagues worse at home (Braves & Diamondbacks), yet somehow, some way, they’re still in the thick of the NL Wild Card race.
Angry?
More sad, really.
We saw Cardinals fans in all their glory last week.
This is a surprisingly mediocre team (thus far), yet in Chicago, Seattle and Kansas City there were tens of thousands of people in those cities wearing red and supporting their baseball team. Impressive considering the team hasn’t given them many reasons to get fired up.
This is not Cleveland.
I know for a fact that many, many people plan their summer vacations around coming to St. Louis and watching the Cardinals. When they’re fighting through a brutal winter, visions of Busch in June or July get them through. These fans’ disposable income is what makes the Cardinals a very profitable enterprise.
It’s not like they don’t know there’s a chance they’ll see a loss or two – it’s live theater with bats and balls, after all.
But the consistency with which the Cardinals have disappointed at home hasn’t been seen since the 1990’s.
They came for wins. They left with angst.
Groundbreaking insight? Not really… Just hoping the Cardinals – who are more than capable of winning, by the way – can win more at home.
