Well the 16th ranked Creighton Blue Jays didn’t put on an offensive clinic on Sunday against the 6th ranked Villanova Wildcats but it still was impressive. Villanova lost Sunday 101-80 to Creighton and lose the season series 2-0.

Sunday’s game belonged to Creighton senior forward Doug McDermott. McDermott, who passed Larry Bird on the all time scoring list, scored 39 points. 12 of McDermott’s 39 points came from the three point line but he was Mr. Everything for the Blue Jays on Sunday.

McDermott also had seven rebounds and shot a perfect 9 for 9 from the free throw line. Funny enough he was the offense for Creighton and Villanova had no answer.

The Blue Jays shot 64.2 percent from the field, 60 percent from the three point line, and 92.3 percent from the free throw line. With those kinds of numbers you will win any game.

Going back to Villanova, their defense looked horrible and the Wildcats looked out of sync. JayVaughn Pinkston was a non-factor for most of the game which put pressure on other players to step up. Pinkston would go on to score 15 points in 34 minutes of game action.

Guard Ryan Arcidiacono was a non-factor in this game as well. He would only score five points in 31 minutes of game action. Finally, Villanova’s bench was non-existent as Josh Hart and Tony Chennault would only combine for eight points.

The Wildcats are now 22-3 on the season and 10-2 in the Big East. Expect when the new AP Poll comes out, the Wildcats will most likely fall out of the top 10. On Tuesday night, they are on the road as they take on Providence who is fighting to make the NCAA tournament.
