After a very short Thanksgiving break, the team had a practice Thursday morning before heading home for holiday meals, the Ohio State women’s basketball team returned to action today against Stony Brook. With a short time to prepare for an unheralded team and a game against a ranked opponent looming, thoughts of last year’s shocking home upset loss to Duquesne were on the minds of many, including some of the players. After Tuesday’s win against Howard, junior guard Tayler Hill mentioned that game from last year “We can’t look past Stony Brook for LSU. Last year we didn’t know much about Duquesne and they came in here and beat us. So we just need to keep our focus and we’ll be fine.” After some lapses in focus in games against easy opponents this year, how focused this young Buckeye squad would be for this game was a big question.

Ohio State quickly put to rest any concerns about how they would start the game by jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Stony Brook finally got on the board, cutting the lead to eight on two occasions, 10-2 and 12-4, before the Buckeyes went on a 13 to 1 run to extend their lead to 25-5 before allowing another the Seawolves to hit another field goal. That basket did little to spark the Seawolves and the Buckeyes continued to dominate the half, heading into the locker room up 42-12.
