After breaking down each player on the ballot for the past five weeks…it’s finally official.
With an amazing curveball, 287 wins, 3701 strikeouts and the groundswell of internet support…Bert Blyleven was the odd’s on favorite to make it into the Hall of Fame is year.
Well, “zealots”…he pulled it off by garnering 79.7% of the vote after falling five short last year.
Joining Blyleven in Cooperstown will be Roberto Alomar. The second baseman missed induction a year ago by eight votes, but cleared the hurdle easily today by garnering 90% of the vote.
Blyleven and Alomar will join Veterans Committe selection Pat Gillick, Ford C. Frick Award winner Dave Van Horne and J.G. Taylor Spink Award winner Bill Conlin in Cooperstown July 24.
