We are coming to a close in our recapping the 2001 season from ten years ago, the last season for Former Bucs Head Coach Tony Dungy.
Week 16 was like a preseason game, the Bucs had clinched a playoff spot and guaranteed an away game, once again at Philadelphia. So this game on ESPN in a nationally broadcasted contest had all the suspense of, well, nothing. It had none.
Starters played a few plays, and that was it. Tampa Bay led 13-3 most of the game, but the Eagles scored late, then recovered a fumble on their kickoff attempt. In Tony Dungy’s book, it was said that GM Rich McKay was asked “Doesnt Tony know its harder to fire a 10-6 coach than a 9-7 one?”
Apperantly, he did not. It would be the last time Tony Dungy walked the sidelines of Raymond James until he came back as Colts HC in 2003.
