Strengths:
Green is a solid all-around player possessing a solid offensive game and the potential to be a lock-down defender. He worked on his shot throughout his time at Chapel Hill and increased his shooting from 43.3% in his freshman year to 47.1% last year. His three point shooting is especially attractive for the Spurs, and his ability as a spot up shooter is nice. While not known for his ability to take his man off the dribble, Green proved to be a solid offensive contributor throughout his college career. However, Green did shine on the defensive end and had a reputation as a stellar defender. He grabbed a good amount of rebounds for a player his size and average nearly two steals and over one block a game.
Weaknesses:
While he has good size Green is not a great athlete but merely an average one. He won’t jump out of the building and doesn’t have blinding speed or quickness, which limits him offensively. Green doesn’t finish great around the basket nor will he score often in isolation situations. Since he is 22 already, Green’s ceiling is lower than other potential draft picks.
How he fits in:
Lets see, a 6’6” small forward who defends well and hits the spot up three. Hmmm….sounds familiar. Some have said that Green could become a poor man’s Bruce Bowen on the defensive end while having a better offensive game, which is easier said than done. Green has shown the willingness to work hard on his shot and has a reputation as being a good character guy, which indicates that he would fit in with the Spurs atmosphere. He fit better before the Spurs acquired Richard Jefferson because now the Spurs need a big man more than a 2/3. However, the Spurs could still use a young player at the position to groom for a couple years down the road.
