Thanks to a victory in a coin-flip held on Friday at the NFL Combine, the Tennessee Titans are now the proud owners of the #16 selection in next month’s draft.
Of course, participating in a coin-flip isn’t the only area of interest for the Titans this week. Team officials are also in Indianapolis as they attempt to get up close and personal with this year’s draft prospects. By most accounts, the Titans will be leaning heavily in the direction of defense on draft-day.
As a result, the final two days of this year’s combine will perhaps be the most important for the Titans as potential draftees who play the positions of DE, DT, LB and CB attempt to strut their stuff in workouts.
Here’s a look at a few players that the Tennessee Titans should be keeping their eyes on over the next 48 hours in Indy.
This raw but athletic specimen has captured the attention of many in the days leading up to this April’s draft. At 6’6″, 260 lbs., Pierre-Paul has the size, strength and speed to be a difference-maker in the NFL for years to come at the DE position.
The naysayers believe that despite his talents, he’s still an unproven commodity based on playing well in only one season at college football’s highest level. However, based on his athletic gifts, he’s definitely a guy the Titans will be watching closely.
A highly productive player in college, despite being undersized, Graham is an impressive prospect. Graham just knows how to get after the quarterback and despite his lack of height, who’s to say that a “short” guy can’t be an impact player at DE?
Just ask the Indianapolis Colts about Dwight Freeney if you want an answer to that question.
If the Titans decide to venture in the direction of DT with the #16 pick, University of Tennessee’s Dan Williams could emerge as a potential candidate.
I like his size and considering his college alma mater, it’s only natural to be reminded of a former Tennessee Titan DT that shall not be named. Despite getting a bit overshadowed by the likes of more highly touted DT draft prospects Gerald McCoy and Ndamukong Suh, Williams is a solid player in his own right and you’d hear no complaints from me if he’s the guy at pick #16 next month.
I like Wilson because of his versatility: in addition to his corner skills, he’s also a good punt returner, which is obviously another area of need for the Titans in 2010.
Another player who can play corner as well as return kicks, he’s also the twin-brother of current Tennessee Titans CB Jason McCourty. Devin’s not a guy that I’d expect the Titans to look at in the first round but perhaps in the third, he’s a player that would make a ton of sense as a future prospect at CB as well as an immediate contributor on special teams.
