This week we take a look back at last week’s action, with particular emphasis on future Buckeyes.
State Finals Recap- winners highlighted
Division I
- Lakewood St. Eds – Kyle Kalis (2012 Commit) vs. Huber Heights Wayne – Braxton Miller (2011 Commit)
Was for sure the game of the weekend, and it would have been great if it could have kept going into OT, but St. Ed’s scored a late TD that Wayne was unable to answer. Congrats to Kyle Kalis and the St. Ed’s team that was able to capture their first state title in school history. Kyle continued his dominance and I continue to put him up there as a five star talent for next year. If you get a chance, watch his block on the first Ed’s TD, where they were on the 1 yd line and he pounded the defender half way through the endzone onto his back!
Braxton looked great once again. He tried to play superman late, but an incomplete pass down the sideline hurt. His ability to escape the pressure, and still find his receivers downtown, stay calm and collected all night, and he does things in the pocket that are great to see from a young QB in terms of looking the safety off, hitting guys out of their break, and then he has the ability to make the playground play, when things break down. Gonna be fun to watch him on the field next year!
Division II
- Trotwood – Bam Bradley (2012 Target) vs. Maple Heights
Trotwood got out to a big lead early and then Maple Heights turned it around. Bam Bradley had a big game, and I have heard 10-14 tackles (I would believe either of those #’s). He was up around the LOS all game long, and man does he look the part of a head hunting safety or maybe a star for us. I don’t see anyway he is not offered next year. Shaq Washington has a chance if used right to be a real star at Cincy, and he showed his whole game in this game and lead the way for his team.
Division III
- Akron Buchtel – Corey Smith (2012 Target) vs. Columbus Bishop Watterson
The Watterson Defense won this game. With 6 turnovers from the Watterson offense, and an offense that had been tearing through opposing defenses, they shut Buchtel down and Smith never got going. He only had two catches that I remember, and had one crucial drop on a 2 pt conversion that would have put Buchtel on top. This was my first time seeing him live and his athleticism is easy to see, and his ability to get in and out of breaks is there as well. Will be fun to watch him put up big numbers next year, as this was the only playoff game in which he did not score a TD. If grades are in order I expect an offer.
Division V
- Youngstown Ursuline – Akise Teague (2011 Target) vs. Coldwater
Wow! Once again Akise Teague puts on a show to a tune of 5 TD’s, 4 rushing and 1 receiving. His runs were magical, in and out of breaks, spin moves, breaking tackles, and running guys over into the end-zone. “Jaw-Dropping” might be the best way to describe them. In two games in the state semi’s and finals he had a total of10 TD’s. Still see him getting an offer and being part of the 2011 class. Urusline blew out Coldwater and won their 3rd straight state championship, and Coldwater’s magical playoff run came to end.
