Another year is almost in the books which means it’s time to recap a wild and wacky year in the mixed martial arts world. All week The MMA Manifesto will bring you the best that 2010 offered to fight fans. Next up: Knockout of the Year.
The dude is nicknamed after a plastic explosive, so it should come as no surprise that Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley is our choice for Knockout of the Year. Daley put Scott Smith to bed at Strikeforce: Henderson vs Babalu with a perfectly timed left hook, leaving his victim face down on the canvas. No follow up punches were necessary and the referee didn’t have to intervene – Daley and everyone else in the building knew the fight was over as soon as the punch landed. It was just the “explosive” debut in Strikeforce that Semtex was looking for.
Special mention must go to former WEC Bantamweight Champion Eddie Wineland, whose powerbomb knockout of Ken Stone at WEC 53 was a close second for Knockout of the Year honours. Good show, mini Rampage.
Runner up: Eddie Wineland slam KO of Ken Stone at WEC 53.
Year in Review: Submission of the Year, UFC Fighter Salaries, UFC PPV Buyrates.
