Last year, when the Milwaukee chapter of the BBWAA released their team awards for the 2010 season, it was met with quite a bit of scrutiny from the Brewers blogosphere. A few of us wondered what would happen if we got a group of Brewers bloggers together to vote on the same awards, and predictably, the results were very different.
We decided to do it again this year, not because we disagree that vehemently with the BBWAA (although there are differences again this year), but because it was a lot of fun gathering a wide spectrum of opinions and giving everyone a voice.
Just like last year, we voted on five awards — the same ones the BBWAA handed out: team MVP, best pitcher, newcomer of the year, unsung hero, and “good guy.” Voters submitted their top three choices for each award, and votes were tallied using a 5-3-1 points system. In all, 20 ballots were cast.

Team MVP: Ryan Braun, 95 points (19 of 20 first place votes)
Best Pitcher: Yovani Gallardo, 72 points (8 of 20 first place votes)
Best Newcomer: Zack Greinke, 59 points (8 of 20 first place votes)
Unsung Hero: Jonathan Lucroy, 29 points (5 of 20 first place votes)
Good Guy: Craig Counsell and Casey McGehee, 27 points (4 first place votes)

Highlights:
– Votes for Nyjer Morgan, Tony Plush, Tony Clutch, and any other Tony were counted separately because they’re clearly different people.
– Counsell and McGehee tied for the “Good Guy” award, but third-place finisher John Axford also compiled 4 first place votes.
– A total of 18 names in the “Unsung Hero” category, and 24 names in the “Good Guy” category. We had fun with these again.
– Four different pitchers received first place votes for pitcher of the year, which is fitting considering how strong the staff was as a whole.
– Sadly, no Twitter accounts made the Good Guy or Unsung Hero lists. Last year @JohnAxfordStach did. Disappointed in the lack of love for @MillerParkHawk and @Not_Tony_Plush.
– It wouldn’t be the Brewers blogosphere awards without a George Kottaras mention. He got one third place vote for Good Guy.
Once again, thanks to everyone who took part this year. This was a fun season to follow to begin with, but it was the bloggers that made it even more entertaining. If you aren’t a regular reader of the blogs listed above, this offseason would be a good time to check them out.
