tBBC continues our look at Ohio State’s 2011 commits, what they have done on the season, a preview of their upcoming game, and a brief synopsis of what to expect when they get to Columbus.
This week we switch to the defensive side of the ball, where we take a look at our first verbal commitment of the 2011 class, Kenny Hayes. A 6’5” 255 lb DE from Toledo, he has been a buckeye his whole life, and couldn’t wait to commit to Ohio State. He has been a fixture at home games for a while now
When viewing his film it easy to spot a potential 5 star player. The first thing that pops out at you is his size- He has the long rangy arms that allow him to get separation and hold the olineman off of him. He still has a raw skillset, and will need to learn to use his hands better with the initial punch to be able to get by college lineman, but his speed, and size are things you cannot teach.
It is going to be his determination and work ethic that will put him as an all Big Ten defensive lineman at Ohio State, as you see him run guys down field and watch his tenacity when he hits the QB or RB. He could end up in a 3 technique position if he continues to grow, and play much in the mold of guys like Cam Heyward and Johnny Simon who move from inside to outside on any given play.

Kenny also has a younger brother at Whitmer who is an outstanding basketball player, Nigel Hayes. Keep an eye out for that name, as I imagine we will continue to see it over the next couple years.
And as a little preview for next week, Kenny is not the only top 100, top 5 in Ohio DE in this class. Steve Miller is big time as well. The Buckeyes have themselves a great pair of bookends in the 2011 class.
