tBBC continues our look at Ohio State’s 2011 commits, what they have done on the season, a preview of their upcoming game, and a brief synopsis of what to expect when they get to Columbus.
This week we will take a look at one of Central Ohio’s own, Ronald Tanner. A 6’2” 190 lb safety out of Eastmoor, Ronald not only excels on the football field, but he also holds a 3.7 GPA.
Tanner was very coveted in the recruiting circles. When he finally committed he had 23 offers to choose from, including Michigan State, Michigan, Arizona, Arizona State, Boston College, Northwestern, Duke, Yale, and Stanford. Yes, you read those last four correctly- Ronald gets it done in the classroom.
When watching him on film it is easy to see why he was well liked by so many schools. He plays both QB and S for Eastmoor, but will play safety at Ohio State. He shows great instincts in the run game to come up from the safety spot and defend the run.
He is a long rangy safety that is not afraid to stick his nose in there and mix it up. He will need to improve on his coverage skills when he comes to Columbus, but he does have the abilities to go up and attack the ball when it is in the air. He has also shown play making ability once he has the ball in his hands, as is evidenced by making a lot of guys miss while playing QB or on his interception returns. His frame will allow him to add weight, and he should play at about 210-215.

Tanner not only is a great high school football player, he also shows leadership out on the football field; everyone that talks about him cannot speak highly enough about his leadership ability. I guess that is why he wears the big C on his chest, and why he was a high priority for the scarlet and gray.
