2011 Tennessee Titans first-round pick: Early Mock drafts part II

About a month ago, I took a look at early mock drafters’ expectations of what the Tennessee Titans would do with their 8th overall selection in April’s Draft. To no one’s surprise, the majority of the mock drafts that I selected had the Titans doing the expected: utilizing their first-rounder to replace soon-to-be jettisoned QB Vince Young.

As promised, since it’s almost a month later, I’ll once again post the results of several mock drafts to get an idea of the path others believe the Titans will travel towards with their first-round draft pick.

(For the sake of consistency, I’ll use several of the same mock drafts that were mentioned in last month’s articles, omitting only the ones that haven’t updated since then.)

CBS Sports: Rob Rang- QB Ryan Mallett, Chad Reuter- DE Robert Quinn

Analysis

As the case previously, many are expecting the Titans to grab a signal-caller with their 8th overall selection. Considering the league’s labor situation that’s preventing the team from utilizing trades/free agency as means of acquiring a new QB, picking up a QB via the draft certainly makes sense.

Speaking of signal-callers, in our first series of mock drafts, Cam Newton’s name was the one mentioned the most. This time around, it’s Mizzou’s Blaine Gabbert who has emerged as the QB that many expect the Titans to select. Of course, this could (and may very well) change again as we get closer to the Combine and private workouts, so stay tuned…
