With the NBA regular season coming to a close it’s time for awards week at The Hoops Manifesto.  We’ve teamed up with some of Bloguin’s best NBA writers to vote on who gets the (virtual) hardware.  Next up: Defensive Player of the Year

Voting Panel: Jeff Fox from The Hoops Manifesto, Lives from Knicks Fanatics, College Wolf and Bonk from TWolves Blog, Philip Rossman-Reich from Orlando Magic Daily, and Don from With Malice.

NBA Defensive Player of the Year

Tyson Chandler – New York

Tyson Chandler has wrestled away the DPOY award from Dwight Howard‘s tight grip.  And rightfully so, as he has transformed the Knicks into a solid defensive team.  It’s not just Chandler’s shotblocking that helps a team – it’s the shots he alters, the talking on defense, his work as a help defender, the freedom he gives teammates to gamble because they know he has got their backs.  Congratulations to Tyson Chandler, our pick for NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

Others receiving votes:  Kevin Garnett, LeBron James, Serge Ibaka

Previous Award Winners: Executive of the Year, Coach of the Year, Most Improved Player, Sixth Man of the Year, All-Rookie Team, Rookie of the Year, All-Defensive Teams

Next up: All-NBA Teams
