2012 Football Recruiting Profile: Vonte Jackson

campbell

The Badgers only grabbed a few players out of the state of Wisconsin and two of them happened to be Running Backs.  Vonte Jackson happens to just be following in the footsteps of former Kenosha Bradford teammate Melvin Gordon in heading west to Madison.  He’s also one of the three players already on the Badgers campus as he recovers from a major knee injury suffered in the 1st half of the 1st game of his Senior season.  His ability to work with the training and strength and conditioning coaches is going to be huge to see him ready by the start of fall camp.

Quick Thoughts:

– he’s very versatile and the numbers that were put up by the backfield of Gordon and himself were crazy good.  Both went for well over 1,000 all-purpose yards a piece in 2010.  He’s a bit of a different back than Gordon and possesses a bit more in terms of elusiveness in his game.

– Anytime you’re dealing with a knee injury and a young person it’s hard to tell how they’ll bounce back, but the good thing is he’s already on campus and in the care of the medial and training staff and that should really help him in the 2nd half of his recovery process.  He’ll also really be able to concentrate on putting on the right kind of weight as he’s only 180lbs and will need to be much bigger to take the punishment that’s handed out in the Big Ten.  I don’t expect that to be an issue for him though as he’s got the frame to put it on.

– With Ball returning and his knee injury I’d be completely shocked if he didn’t redshirt his freshman year and come back to compete for major playing time in 2013.  He could be a huge factor in the return game where he really stood out behind Gordon in 2010.

Since he didn’t have a senior season, here is a highlight film of him in 2010 for your viewing pleasure:
