2013 NBA Draft Player Profile: C.J. McCollum

C.J. McCollum
Lehigh – Senior (Born 1991)
Point Guard/Shooting Guard
6'3" 197 lbs

The Good:

– 6'6" wingspan
– big ups (38.5" vertical)
– big time scoring point guard
– very efficient & versatile scorer
– great jump shooter – shot 49% on two-point jumpers last season
– deadly three-point shooter his senior season (51.6%)
– great free throw shooter
– very good rebounder
– very experienced – four years in college, NCAA Tournament against big teams
– smart player

The Bad:

– missed most of senior season due to a broken foot
– played in a small conference so didn't go up against best competition
– definitely a shoot-first point guard
– not much of a playmaker
– could be a tweener/combo guard
– some defensive question marks
– not an off-the-charts athlete
– oldest top prospect in the draft

NBA Comparison:

Poor man's Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard

The Skinny:

Damian Lillard's incredibly successful rookie season (not to mention Stephen Curry's breakout year) will probably help C.J. McCollum's draft stock.  Whether he can come anywhere close to these two players' level will depend on his ability to play the point in the NBA.
