2013 NBA Free Agency: Dwight Howard Chooses Rockets, Is Josh Smith Next?

KGfun

According to reports, Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard has made his decision and he will join the Houston Rockets over the Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and Lakers.

Howard, who averaged 17.1 points, 12.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks for the Lakers, joins a potent line up in Houston that features All-Star guard James Harden, Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons.

While details of a sign-and-trade are not official, it has been rumored that Omer Asik and Lin may possible be exchanged for Howard.  Another unconfirmed rumor is that the Rockets are looking to add a third player in the form of free-agent small forward Josh Smith, a close childhood friend of Howard’s.

In choosing Houston, Howard gets to play in an inside-out offense that caters more to his strengths down low and in the post, while being surrounded by prolific three-point shooters in Harden—and possibly Lin–if a third player in Smith is added, then Houston’s “Big Three” of Howard, Smith and Harden could develop into one of the most physical and prolific in the NBA.
