[dropcap]M[/dropcap]EMPHIS, TN – Methodical, physical and old-fashioned would be the best way to describe newly crowned NBA Defensive Player Of The Year Marc Gasol and his play in the 2013 NBA Playoffs

Thanks to a 20 point, nine rebound performance, Memphis gutted out a tough win over the defending Western conference champion Oklahoma City Thunder, 87-81, to take a 2-1 series lead in the Western Conference semifinals.

Gasol scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half, including two free throws with 63 seconds left.

Not as flashy or as well-known as his older brother, Pau of the Los Angeles Lakers, Marc is more grit to Pau’s glamour, and it would show yet again in a crucial game that would lift the relocated former Vancouver expansion franchise one step closer to their first-ever birth in the West finals.

The Thunder would be led by small forward Kevin Durant’s 25 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, three steals and point guard Reggie Jackson’s 16 points.
