2013 Recruiting Board Update
To assist you in tracking what is happening in the world of Ohio State football recruiting, check out our 2013 Recruiting Page and follow the links for the latest news and in-depth discussion/speculation (thanks to our friends at BuckeyePlanet) on each player.
We are going to start notifying our readers when the board is updated (which is also noted on the top of the recruiting page) and today is one of those days so check it out!
Latest News:
JUCO LB Tommy Sanders is scheduled to decide between Ohio State, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Mississippi State by Wednesday of this week.
If he chooses Ohio State, does that mean that the Buckeyes would take three LBs in 2013 with Mike Mitchell and Trey Johnson, or is someone out?
They will almost certainly take at least two.
The need is there to justify taking three LBs, and as the search for an offensive tackle continues to rumble along, there could be room.
In the twisted web of recruiting, the recent commitment of Donovan Munger could have implications here. Follow me down the rabbit hole…
Adding Munger to the class has most people speculating that either he or Billy Price will move over to the offensive side of the ball as an interior player.
For those keeping track, that gives the Buckeyes one true tackle in Evan Lisle, one purely interior player in either Munger or Price, and Tim Gardner.
As more and more offensive tackles continue to drop off the board, I am hopeful that the staff is comfortable putting Gardner on the edge, which would decrease the need to add another OT and open up a spot for another player- a third LB, for instance.
In other news, a decision from GA S Vonn Bell is expected in the near future now that his playoff run is over. Coach Meyer was in attendance at his final game and the Buckeyes are solidly in the mix.
There are other players in the mix at safety as well, so, if you haven’t gotten the message yet, check out our Big Board for all the possibilities there.
KY WR James Quick just went on his official visit to Louisville and he didn’t commit and says he wants to look at the Buckeyes one more time. Both of those things are not bad for Ohio State’s chances.
The rest of the WRs on the board remain solid options as well and the staff will likely add at least two more WRs.
My current best guess for late additions in the class would be:
0-1 Offensive Tackles
2-3 Wide Receivers
2-3 Linebackers
1-2 Safeties
With 19 current commitments and room for 25 at the absolute most, some combination of those positions that adds up to 6 or less is a good guess for the finish to the class.
Speaking of numbers, WR Verlon Reed just left the team which opens up an additional spot on the roster.
In 2014 recruiting news, IN ATH Lonnie Johnson will announce his college decision on Friday and very likely will be the Buckeyes first commitment in that class.
Look for a major update to the 2014 Big Board with plenty of additions sometime in the near future.
There are also offers currently going out to quite a few 2015 players and we will launch a Big Board for that class sometime soon as well.
Urban Meyer and his staff are machines on the recruiting trail and it is often difficult to keep up, even if “keeping up” just means adding players to a database.
