2013 tUB Awards: Ted Lindsay Award

The Lindsay is given out by the NHLPA, and awarded to the most outstanding player as decided by the players. Since we couldn’t do the whole player votes part (what sets it apart from the Hart) we went in a slightly different direction. The tUB Lindsay is going out to the BEST player, irregardless of value to the team. So with that said, the shocking winner of the Lindsay is…..

WINNER: Sergei Bobrovsky

AlisonL (1): “It’s amazing to think that we were full of questions about our goaltending when the season started. Bob played his position to a superior level among all NHL goal tenders and delivered many a win to the Blue Jackets this season.”

CBJProspects (1): “Most outstanding player yep that’s Bob. Who knows where we would’ve been without Bob.”

The Coach (1): “If anyone of my cohorts picks anyone else for this award, then they are wrong. There is simply no other realistic option for the Blue Jackets most outstanding player. In fact, Bob should probably win this league-wide. He was that fantastic this season.”

Mark Letestu

CBJProspects (2): “Yes the healthy scratch of the first few games who would end up leading the team in goal scoring and earned himself a 2 year contract extension. Mark also became a clutch performer scoring his 2 game winning goals during the teams 19-5-5 run.”

Brandon Dubinsky

The Coach (2): “I love Dubi. The way he plays the game blows my mind. He’s a forward version of what Nick Lidstrom was on defense, in that both players almost always make the exact right decision, are in the right position, or otherwise know exactly what to do. Beyond that, he was very unlucky in his shots, but he played tough minutes and drove play forward with consistency. Oh and he finished in the top five in the entire NHL in faceoffs. He’s a beauty.”

Marian Gaborik

AlisonL (2): “Alright. I will go there. While his tenure with the club was short this season, Gaby showed flashes of what a $7MM player brings to the table. His incredible patience with the puck resulted in goals and the respect other teams are showing him on the ice is undeniable. And let’s be real – I’m giving him this nod now because I expect to see him perform better next year.”

Fedor Tyutin

CBJProspects (3): “Tyutin played in every game led the d in scoring and was solid on the blueline.”

AlisonL (3): “Yep. My season long love affair with Tyuts continues. Our defensive leader demonstrated a quiet presence and was far less noticeable to me this year – which means he’s doing his job not making gaffes.”

Vinny Prospal

The Coach (3): “Vinny was outstanding this season. While he regressed the second half of the season, he still finished with the team lead in points, and had a fantastic year by any measure. His points per game this season were right there with his career numbers, which is crazy for a 38 year old.”

Well there it is, friends. Coming up next, we’ll talk about the Jack Adams award – AKA make our case / rant and rave about why Richards’ should have been considered by the league.
