2014 Bearcat Season Countdown: #17 – Munchie Legaux’s Comeback

Baltimore 326

It was a surprise in 2013 when Munchie Legaux made it all the way through training camp and into the Purdue game was the starting quarterback. Most people expected it to be Brendon Kay after Kay’s solid 2012 season. But it was Legaux who won out the job and led Cincinnati to a huge season opening victory. In week two though, Legaux had his season and his career flash before his eyes against Illinois. A vicious hit to the knee put the quarterback to the turf. It ended his 2013 before it could even take off.

Legaux wouldn’t let himself quit. He said he was going to play again. Munchie dropped word over the winter that he was coming back to Cincinnati with a 5th season. And come back he has. Currently, Legaux is listed as the second string quarterback behind former top recruit Gunner Kiel. Tommy Tuberville hasn’t officially named a starting quarterback. Everyone thinks it will be Kiel. But then again, everyone was wrong last year.

The thing about the Munchie Legaux comeback is that his story doesn’t need him to be the starter. His story only needs him to walk back on the field as a Cincinnati Bearcat. It needs him to stand at midfield for a coin toss as a captain. Playing in a game would be a cherry on top of the sundae. Munchie Legaux has done the hard part. He’s put in the work, the dedication, the blood and the sweat and the tears.

He’s given his body to the sport that he loves. I would love to see him rewarded with what his goals are for his senior season, but I would just love to see him out the field. I’m sure I speak for a lot of the other fans. Munchie Legaux has earned his final moments as a Bearcat. I’m not saying other players haven’t because of course they have. But Munchie has overcome adversity that some of us know nothing about. Whether he starts or not, his senior year is already a success by the fact he’s in the conversation.

We’ll be rooting for you, Munchie.
