The Cincinnati Bearcats kick off the 2014 football season in 31 days. Bearcats Blog is counting down 32 reasons and people why we, as a fan base, should be pumped for 2014.

32 – AAC Favorite – 31 – Adrian Witty

#30 – Jake Golic’s Incredible Return

Jake Golic is only known for his coming’s and going’s with the Cincinnati football program. Last season, he announced that he was transferring from Notre Dame to Cincinnati. Due to chronic back injuries, he announced that he was leaving Cincinnati. After appearing at the spring game in April, Golic announced he was coming back to Cincinnati after being granted a 6th year of eligibility.

Golic has only participated in 5 games his entire career, posting no stats. But the on the field stats are nothing when compared to the story of his return and how cool it’s going to be to see Golic actually on the field as a Bearcat. Tom Groeschen of Cincinnati.com wrote about Golic recently. If you didn’t know, Golic had a stem cell procedure on his back during his time away. From the article:

Medically speaking, the therapies utilize adult mesenchymal, multipotent stem cells, taken from a patient’s own bone marrow concentrate, and then injected back into the same patient, directly into the injured, damaged, or painful area.

Golic claims to feel “better than he has since his senior year of high school.” That’s pretty incredible. Tommy Tuberville was quoted in the article saying that Golic could have a chance to start, depending on how high back held up at Higher Ground.

UC is in a state of flux at tight end. DJ Dowdy put up 2 catches last year. Dowdy is the leader on the depth chart as of today. Tyler Cogswell, listed as the backup, is a redshirt freshman. There is room for someone to make a big splash in camp. Why not Jake Golic?

Embedded is an interview with Golic from the article. Check it out.
