SAO PAOLO — Love him or hate him, Luis Suarez is turning the 2014 FIFA World Cup into his own personal showcase.

Thanks to his brace against England, the Liverpool striker is enjoying a career year in which he scored over 30 goals for Liverpool en route to being named 2014 PFA player of The Year. Biter, diver, racist. Call him what you wish, but Suarez is undoubtedly the best player in Brazil not named Lionel Messi or Neymar

The second round of Group D play saw the advent of Uruguayan striker marking the occasion by netting not one, but two goals to hand England their second loss in as many matches.

His first, a brilliant header at the end of an Edinson Cavani cross opened the scoring in the 39th minute. England attacker Wayne Rooney equalized after a brilliant feed from right back Glenn Johnson, but El Pistolero struck again 5 minutes from time getting on the end of a deep ball before firing into the roof of the net. Suarez, who has recovered from a knee injury suffered in the last match of Liverpool’s Premier League season, looked fit and ready to lead the last tournament’s second runners-up back to a place if prominence on the world’s biggest stage.

While there was celebration in the streets of Montevideo, England hosted an opposite scene. The highly touted Three Lions would be knocked out of the World Cup group stage for the first time since 1958 thanks to Costa Rica’s 1-0 win over Italy draw Friday. England, who controversially left home such veterans as John Terry, Michael Carrick, and Ashley Cole in favor of blooming the next generation, will be hoping for some help in going from perennial World Cup underachiever to iconic power again.

Clearly, Uruguay does not have that problem thanks the heroics of Suarez, who can sit back and prepare to move forward.
