The road to redemption hasn’t been a struggle thus far for the New England Revolution, as the team sits in second place in the Eastern Conference table, two points behind D.C. United. Their next match on Sunday, May 31 will mean a little extra to the club, as they face the team that defeated them in the 2014 MLS Cup.
It’s clear that fans of the Revolution know how important this win would be for the team. Revolution tickets against the Los Angeles Galaxy have an average price of $58.53 on the secondary ticket market, whereas tickets start at $25 from the team directly. It is the second most expensive secondary market Revolution ticket price in the month of May and the team’s most expensive home game. The only game with a higher ticket price this month was a road contest against Orlando SC on May 8 that had an average ticket price of $66.14.
The Los Angeles Galaxy won the 2014 MLS Cup by defeating the Revolution 2-1 in overtime when Ireland’s Robbie Keane scored a goal in the 111th minute. The Galaxy won their fifth MLS Cup title and completed the fairytale ending for Landon Donovan, as the all-time goal-scoring leader for the USA national team retired after the season. It was the second MLS Cup in a three-season span for the club.
But Los Angeles has started slow this season, beginning the campaign with two straight losses and currently ranking seventh in the Western Conference standings with a 4-5-4 record. As mentioned earlier, the Revolution have picked up right where they left off from last season, scoring 18 goals thus far, which is tied for the lead in the entire MLS with FC Dallas.
The Revolution should have their opportunities against Los Angeles, as one of the most dynamic offenses in the league goes up against a leaky defense. The 15 goals against the Galaxy are tied for second worst in the conference, only behind the Houston Dynamo with 16. Although the Revolution’s defense hasn’t been the strongest either with 16 goals against, their offense has more than made up for their defensive struggles. The Galaxy do not have the same caliber of offense that New England has, though, and is struggling from transitioning into life without Donovan.
