2014 NBA Draft: P.J. Hairston to workout with Philadelphia 76ers

Former UNC star and now NBA D-Leaguer P.J. Hairston is set to have a workout with the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.

Hairston, who had a tumultuous end to his career at UNC, found new life in the NBA D-League where he was signed by the Texas Legends. While in the D-League, Hairston performed at an all time high. The 6-foot-6, 230 lbs guard averaged 21.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game. These numbers are not a fluke as Hairston played 26 games with the Legends averaging 32.3 minutes per game.

P.J. Hairston is a volume shooter and has a knack for scoring the ball. In majority of his games, Hairston shot the ball more than ten times. He also loves shooting the three ball as he has no problem pulling the trigger. In Hairston’s second game in the D-League, he scored 40 points on 58 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three-point line.

Then three games later he would follow that game up scoring his career high in the D-League with 45 points. He would shoot 54.5 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point range, and 16 of 16 from the foul line. According to many mock drafts, Hairston could be a mid first round or an early second round pick.

For the Sixers, they probably would not use the 10th overall selection on Hairston but could definitely package a couple of their second round picks to move back into the latter half of the first round to select him. Ideally if he was on the Sixers, I don’t see him as their starting two guard but I do see him as somebody that could challenge Tony Wroten for the sixth man spot on this team because he is a flat-out scorer and shooter.
