The NBA free agency ice was broken last Tuesday when PG Kyle Lowry, re-signed with the Toronto Raptors for four years and $48 million. The question that now remains is who is the next point guard to score big in free agency?
Lowry, 28, is coming off arguably his best season of his career, averaging 17.9 points a game, 7.4 assists a game, and 4.7 rebounds a game. He led Toronto to a 48-34 record and the third seed in the Eastern Conference. Lowry was the regarded as the best point guard available in free agency.
Teams such as the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets, who he previously played for, were looking to sign him. With Lowry deciding to stay with Toronto, who keep bringing in tough and young talent to help build on, 2014-15 could be a great season for them.
Now that the Raptors have their biggest worries off their hands, ensuring they kept their star point guard, they can now make a few trades, which we already seen as they just traded Steve Novak to the Utah Jazz for a future second-round draft pick.
With Lowry back in the fold, Toronto can go out and sign some mid-level players to help the Raptors and their other All-Star guard DeMar DeRozan continue contending in the East.
With Lowry off the market, the best available point guards are Isiah Thomas of the Sacramento Kings, and restricted free agent Eric Bledsoe, who will most likely stay with the Phoenix Suns.
