LAS VEGAS – Another intriguing game on day 2 of the Las Vegas Summer League was between the Utah Jazz and the Philadelphia 76ers.
It was the first glimpse of the mystery man from this year’s NBA Draft, Dante Exum, and it was also a first glimpse for many of last year’s mystery man, Nerlens Noel, who sat out all of last year’s NBA season after breaking his knee at the University of Kentucky.
Unfortunately for fans, Noel was rested, having played for the 76ers in the Orlando Summer League which they won. Like LaVine, Exum’s first points came from an alley-oop dunk.
Unlike LaVine though, Exum showed why he was the highest-drafted point guard in this year’s draft. His ability to break down the defense and find the open man was uncanny. Another stand out for the Jazz was their big man Rudy Gobert, with a 7’6 wingspan and 7’1 frame, his ability to block shots and run the floor were standouts.
Unfortunately for the Jazz, they were atrocious from the three point line, particularly rookie, Rodney Hood, who went 1 from 10 from the three point line.
Clearly, the 76ers have played together for a while, having played at and won the Orlando Summer League and their team chemistry was great as they played well as a team creating open shots and getting to the basket at will.
All in all a good start for Exum in his first Summer League game, but a disappointing result for the Jazz going down by four, 74-70 to the 76ers.
