2014 NFL Draft Bowl Previews: Little Caesar’s Bowl – Pittsburgh vs. Bowling Green

Aaron DonaldWith Bowling Green’s upset over Northern Illinois, they were able to win the MAC Championship and secure a spot in the Little Caesar’s Bowl. Pittsburgh on the other hand had a disappointing season, going 6-6 and finishing 6th in the ACC Coastal. The game doesn’t have many 2014 draft prospects in it, particularly on the Bowling Green sideline, however strong performances could go a long way with a few in the group.

Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh, #9

You’ll hear a lot about the hardware Aaron Donald won at the awards show (Lombardi, Nagurski, Bednarik, Outland). His ability to dominate on a collegiate level is not questioned, the question is how much of that will translate to the pros. Keep an eye on him as he is the odds on favorite to be the highest player drafted from this game.

Devin Street, WR, Pittsburgh, #15
Street had a bit of a disappointing senior season, although part of that could be due to the expectations being too high. He is tall skinny WR who has shown the ability to catch the deep ball, but doesn’t appear to have great skills at create a lot of YAC. He is currently a Day 2 or 3 pick that could get his name back on the radar with a big game.

Tom Savage, QB, Pittsburgh, #7
It feel like Savage has been in college for about eight years, but his eligibility is finally coming to an end. Savage unfortunately is a pocket passer stuck being a poor offensive line, however the Bowl game may give him the opportunity to show what he can do with sometime in the pocket. At times his arm strength and accuracy have been strong enough to see the potential to be a starting QB in the NFL, but as of right now he looks to be a Day 3 selection.

Boo Boo Gates, S, Bowling Green, #24

Gates is one of the top players in the MAC but he currently looks to be a Day 3 pick at best. He has a shot to catch on as a depth and special teams player, but he doesn’t appear to have the size or speed to be an ideal NFL starter.

Other Players to Watch
