2014 NFL Draft: Carolina Panthers to meet with Penn State WR Allen Robinson

The Carolina Panthers’ issues at wide receiver have been well documented this off-season. So far, they have lost Steve Smith, Brandon Lafell, and Ted Ginn Jr.

To replace those wide receivers, the Panthers added Jason Avant, Tiquan Underwood, and Jerricho Cotchery. Sorry to say, none of these wide receivers can get the job done adequately as a number one or two wideout.

You would have to think that Carolina’s top priority in the draft would be to draft a wide receiver at pick 28, as they are in prime position to do so. Last night according to Yahoo Sports’ Rand Getlin, he tweeted out that the Panthers are traveling for a last minute meeting to meet with Allen Robinson, per a source.

In year one, Robinson could be an impact player for the Panthers’ offense and will give Cam Newton a weapon he can work with for many years to come. Last season at Penn State, Robinson had 97 receptions for 1,432 receiving yards and six touchdowns. That screams to me instant offense.

For the Panthers, they need to draft a wide receiver even if it isn’t Robinson with their first pick because their offense will suffer and so will Cam Newton.
