For the first time in three years, Penn State is heading to a bowl game. Penn State (6-6) will be taking on Boston College (7-5) out of the ACC, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy. The game will kick off at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 27 in Yankee Stadium.

Penn State leads the all-time series against B.C. 19-4. However, the Eagles have won the last three match-ups in 1992, 2003 and 2004.

Looking Back

Boston College had a pretty solid 7-5 season. four out of their five losses have come to teams who have been in the top 25 for the majority of the season, including a loss to Florida State, when FSU had to come from behind in the 4th quarter. BC upset USC 37-31 early in the season, when the Trojans were ranked ninth in the nation.

Meanwhile, Penn State went 6-6 in the regular season. The Nittany Lions started the season 4-0, but went 2-6 in their final eight games of the year, which all started with an awful loss to Northwestern in Evanston, 6-29.

Preview:

Both of these teams have stellar defenses. Penn State has arguably the best defense in the nation, and Boston College has a solid defense in the ACC. Boston College is only surrendering 20.5 points per game, which is not an easy feat, especially being in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

BC has one of the best rushing attacks in the country. They kind of look like past Penn State teams–they’ll stop you on defense and churn down the clocks on long drives by using the run game. Boston College has a heck of a dual threat quarterback in Tyler Murphy, who is the teams leading passer and rusher.  BC is 15th in the nation in rushing yards per game, as they run for 251 yards per contest. This will be a low-scoring, slow, defensive battle. This style of play will knock Penn State Football back into the Joe Paterno era.

Prediction:

Penn State 13 vs. Boston College 10
