Madison Square Garden and the Barclays Center will split the events of the NBA's All-Star Weekend in 2015, with the Knicks' home getting the All-Star Game while the Nets' domain gets everything else |
Just recapping some Nets news from earlier in the week, as it was revealed that the Barclays Center will soon be involved in the 2nd-biggest event of the NBA season–other than the Finals–as it will co-host (with MSG) the 2015 All-Star Weekend.
Even with the clear tensions between management of New York City's two NBA franchises, the Knicks and Nets were able to compromise with the sharing of the weekend's events as MSG will host Sunday's All-Star Game while Barclays gets Friday's Rising Stars game and Saturday's medley of specialty competitions. Also, it appears that the Fan Fest activities normally associated with the weekend will be at New York City's most notable convention center, the Jacob Javits Center, which is in Manhattan.
Irregardless of All-Star Weekend's main draw being held in Manhattan at MSG, the deal is a solid coupe for the Nets, Barclays Center, and the borough of Brooklyn in overall. Two days of events always beats one, meaning that Barclays gets basically double the exposure to the fans attending the festivities that are coming from around the country (and maybe world) who have never been to the Barclays Center before. That publicity boost will be a nice boon for the young arena and its main tenant in addition to bringing a ton of prolonged tourism and subsequent revenue for local businesses around Barclays.
Although it's during the season after this upcoming one, the NBA's 2015 All-Star Weekend is something for Nets fans to get really excited about. Even if the 2013-14 season doesn't end up as successfully as we think it will, we'll always have the next year's Friday and Saturday night festivities.
