The Philadelphia Eagles have a hole at right guard with the departure of offensive lineman Todd Herremans and last season had Evan Mathis and Jason Kelce missing significant time with injuries. With those factors, the Eagles need to draft an offensive lineman to provide themselves with some more depth.
According to Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net, the Eagles along with the Dallas Cowboys put Utah Utes offensive linemen Visesio “Junior” Salt and Jeremiah Poutasi through private workouts.
Salt, the senior, 6-foot-2, 315 lbs. offensive lineman played in 24-of-25 games in two seasons, starting in 20. In 2014, he spent time at both guard positions and in 2013; he started in all 12 games at the right guard spot.
Poutasi, however, is a junior and is 6-foot-6 and 330 lbs. At Utah, Poutasi was a three-year starter, playing in 36-of-37 games, starting in 35. As a true freshman, he played the right tackle position and for his last two years at Utah he played left tackle.
In 2014, he played 846 snaps at left tackle and only allowed three sacks. He was rewarded for his great play this past season with Second-team All-Pac 12 and in their bowl game was named the Las Vegas Bowl Offensive “Out-Performer” of the game.
Salt and Poutasi are versatile in that they can both play multiple positions which is intriguing to many teams including the Eagles.
