2015 NFL Mock Draft 2.0

apps

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jameis Winston- QB, Florida St.

Winston is still number one as I said in my first mock draft, “The Buccaneers have to take a chance on Winston. On the field he is everything you could want in a franchise quarterback. Off the field he is everything you don’t. If Winston performs well and can stay out of trouble the Buccaneers will be a competitive team again very quickly.” (Previous pick: Jameis Winston)

2. Tennessee Titans: Marcus Mariota- QB, Oregon

If the Titans believe that Mariota has the makings of a franchise quarterback, I think they have to take him. Passing on Leonard Williams will be very difficult because Mariota will take time to develop but in the long run it’s the right move for the franchise. (Previous pick: Leonard Williams)

3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Leonard Williams- DE, USC

The Jaguars could not be happier that the Titans took a chance on Mariota because they luck into the best football player in the draft. Leonard Williams has already drawn comparisons to J.J. Watt and will provide an incredibly disruptive player to their defensive front. (Previous Pick: Dante Fowler Jr.)

4. Oakland Raiders: Amari Cooper- WR, Alabama

Nothing changes here as I said in my first mock, “The debate here was Cooper or Kevin White. I think Kevin White has more super star potential down the line but Amari Cooper is a more complete overall receiver and Derek Carr needs help now, so they go with Cooper. But I will say this, if Al Davis was making the pick, it would be Kevin White.” (Previous Pick: Amari Cooper)

5. Washington Redskins: Dante Fowler Jr.- OLB, Florida

The Redskins have a tough choice to make at the fifth pick between Dante Fowler Jr. and Vic Beasley. Luckily for them I think it is a question that has no wrong answer. Either player steps in and starts day one opposite Ryan Kerrigan. Both need work in coverage but I think Fowler Jr. has a slight edge on Beasley in pass rushing. (Previous Pick: Vic Beasley)

6. New York Jets: Vic Beasley- OLB, Clemson

Whichever outside linebacker the Redskins do not take, the Jets will take the other. Beasley would be an excellent fit in Todd Bowles’ defense and will provide the missing edge rush. (Previous Pick: Marcus Mariota)

7. Chicago Bears: Kevin White- WR, West Virginia

As long as no one jumps in front of the Bears to get him they land West Virginia star Kevin White. While he will most likely not be able to match Brandon Marshall’s production day one, the duo of Alshon Jeffery and White will be very difficult to contain. (Previous Pick: Shane Ray)

8. Atlanta Falcons: Shane Ray- DE, Missouri

The Falcons have been desperately looking to add talent to their pass rush with Shane Ray and Randy Gregory still on the board it is a dealer’s choice, so they take the guy who has not failed a drug test. (Previous Pick: Randy Gregory)

9. New York Giants: Brandon Scherff- OG, Iowa

Giants stick with Scherff- “If the Giants have any hope of returning to post season glory they need to fix their offensive line. Eli Manning is a good Quarterback and can get back to the post season as long as the Giants take the best O-linemen in the draft.” (Previous Pick: Brandon Scherff)

10. St. Louis Rams: DeVante Parker- WR, Louisville

Parker is not a jaw dropping athlete but his tape shows someone who can become a number one wide receiver in this league. The Rams desperately need to add some firepower to a lackluster offense so they go and get the best wide receiver on the board and give Nick Foles some help. (Previous Pick: Kevin White)

11. Minnesota Vikings: Trae Waynes- CB, Michigan St.

Waynes is the best corner in the draft and will most likely start his entire rookie season for the Vikings. They will be tempted to take Breshad Perriman and help out Teddy Bridgewater but Waynes is simply the smarter pick. (Previous Pick: Andrus Peat)

12. Cleveland Browns: Breshad Perriman- WR, Central Florida

The Browns have no idea what the future holds for Josh Gordon and without him their wide receiver core is pedestrian at best. Perriman is probably not worth the 12th overall pick but the Browns desperate need for a wide receiver outweighs the price.

13. New Orleans Saints: Randy Gregory- OLB, Nebraska

The Saints are probably the only team that took Gregory’s failed drug test as a good thing because it means he falls to them at pick 13. Gregory is worth a top five pick based on talent alone but he has already showed a serious lack of good judgment. So the Saints get a top five player for a lot less than he’s worth. (Previous Pick: Trae Waynes)

14. Miami Dolphins: Andrus Peat- OT, Stanford

At 6-foot-7, 316 lbs, Peat is the top tackle in the draft. The Dolphins could use help in the secondary but they cannot afford to pass on Peat and help Ryan Tannehill stay upright and healthy. (Previous Pick: Jalen Collins)

15. San Francisco 49ers: Arik Armstead- DT, Oregon

49ers still land the big man at pick 15- “At 6-foot-8, 290 lbs, Armstead is an absolute roadblock that will anchor the Niners defensive line. With all of the departures the 49ers suffered this offseason, Armstead will be a welcomed addition.” (Previous Pick: Arik Armstead)

16. Houston Texans: La’El Collins- OT, LSU

Collins is one of the fastest risers in this year’s draft and is my number two tackle. The Texans may not have a quarterback but when they do finally find one he will be well protected. (Previous Pick: T.J. Clemmings)

17. San Diego Chargers: Todd Gurley- RB, Georgia

The rumors about the Chargers trading up for Mariota is all smoke and mirrors in my opinion. However, since Ryan Mathews is now a part of the Philly three-headed monster they need someone in the backfield. Todd Gurley is their guy. (Previous Pick: Danny Shelton)

18. Kansas City Chiefs: T.J. Clemmings, Pittsburgh

Former first overall pick Erik Fisher has not turned into the franchise left tackle they needed so they try again and go for the best tackle on the board. (Previous Pick: Breshad Perriman)

19. Cleveland Browns: Danny Shelton- NT, Washington

The Browns grabbed their much needed wide receiver with their first pick so they beef up their defense with a 339 lb nose tackle. Shelton will not shine right away but he is an above average interior pass rusher. (Previous Pick: Malcolm Brown)

20. Philadelphia Eagles: Landon Collins- S, Alabama

Eagles still land Collins- “The Eagles get lucky that Collins slides to #20 and they sprint to the podium to make the pick. The Eagles desperately needed to improve their secondary this offseason and with the addition of Byron Maxwell and now Collins they should she a much improved defense in 2015.” (Previous Pick: Landon Collins)

21. Cincinnati Bengals: Jalen Collins- CB, LSU

LSU continues to crank out first round talents in the secondary. Jalen Collins is probably the most physically talented corner in the draft. At 6-foot-2 and 198 lbs, Collins is a physical corner who needs some work on his technique but his physical ability makes up for it. (Previous Pick: Kevin Johnson)

22. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kevin Johnson- CB, Wake Forest

Johnson started three years at Wake Forest and showed great improvement in 2014. With the retirement of Ike Taylor, Johnson has a good shot to start Week 1. (Previous Pick: Jordan Phillips)

23. Detroit Lions: Jordan Phillips- NT, Oklahoma

After losing both Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairly, the Lions need big time help on the defensive line. They traded for Haloti Ngata, which will help in the short term, but Phillips is a massive presence in the middle that can anchor their line for years. (Previous Pick: Eddie Goldman)

24. Arizona Cardinals: Bud Dupree- OLB, Kentucky

Cardinals stick with Dupree- “The Cardinals need to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks to stay competitive in the most difficult division in football. Dupree lacks consistency but when he’s on he is unstoppable.” (Previous Pick: Bud Dupree)

25. Carolina Panthers: D.J. Humphries- OT, Florida

Panthers still get Humphries- “The Panthers need the best out of Cam Newton to make it back to the postseason, even though last year was a fluke. To do that, they will need Newton healthy and upright so they select Humphries at #25. Humphries has elite size and strength but will take some time before he’s ready for the blind side, so I see him starting at right tackle for a year or two.” (Previous Pick: D.J. Humphries)

26. Baltimore Ravens: Melvin Gordon- RB, Wisconsin

The Ravens re-signed Justin Forsett in the offseason, but he is better suited for a third down role at this point in his career. Gordon gives them a home run hitter who can also dominate in between the tackles. (Previous Pick: Todd Gurley)

27. Dallas Cowboys: Malcolm Brown- DT, Texas

Brown gets to stay home in Texas as he lands with the Cowboys at #27. Brown is incredibly versatile and can play multiple spots across the line in a 3-4 and a 4-3. The Cowboys need help all around their defense and Brown is the best guy available.

28. Denver Broncos: Eddie Goldman- DT, Florida St.

After losing Terrence Knighton in free agency, the Broncos have a big need along the defensive line. Goldman is not the most powerful defensive tackle in the draft but his ability to shed blocks and get into the backfield is very impressive. (Previous Pick: La’El Collins)

29. Indianapolis Colts: Ereck Flowers- OT, Miami

The Colts need to do whatever they can to help Andrew Luck. Flowers could start right away at right tackle and eventually move him to the left side if necessary. (Previous Pick: Paul Dawson)

30. Green Bay Packers: Ronald Darby- CB, Florida St.

The Packers defense has a few holes but none bigger than their secondary and Darby would be a much needed upgrade. He is slightly undersized but has outstanding speed that could have him playing a key role on special teams and playing some time at nickel corner by Week 1. (Previous Pick: Eric Kendricks)

31. New Orleans Saints: Dorial Green-Beckham- WR, Missouri

I still see Green-Beckham as a first round talent -“The Saints take the biggest gamble in the first round by selecting Green-Beckham. On the field, Green-Beckham has the stature and physicality to be amongst the ranks of Calvin Johnson. His routes need work and he will drop the occasional home run ball but he would give the Saints an unquestioned number one new target. Off the field, he is a nightmare, so much so that he may fall far into the second round.” (Previous Pick: Dorial Green-Beckham)

32. New England Patriots: Jaelen Strong- WR, Arizona

The Patriots may have won the Super Bowl this past season but they lost a lot of key players in free agency. They have a huge need at cornerback but no one at this point is worth a first round pick so they go with the best receiver on the board and give Brady another weapon. At 6-foot-3, 215 lbs, Strong is an outside possession receiver that reminds me of Anquan Boldin. He should do very well working with Brady. (Previous Pick: Melvin Gordon)
