Another week, and more of the same from the top QBs that could potentially enter the 2015 draft. Will the Cowboys take a look at QB in 2015? They should, especially with Romo clearly fighting through back stiffness, which will linger the rest of the year. When you’re as old as Romo is and with this ongoing injury, it’s just a matter of time before he’s done. Let’s look at how these prospects did in week 4.
– Kevin Hogan, QB, Stanford 6-4 , 228lbs (redshirt junior)
BYE Week
Next Opp: Washington
Stanford is about to enter the meaty part of their schedule with a couple of solid teams, and it’ll begin with fellow Pac-12 rival, Washington. Washington is 4-0 and playing well. This should be a good game and should bring out the best in Hogan.
– Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State 6-4, 210lbs (redshirt junior)
5/6 83 2 TD 0 INT; 1 RUSH TD vs Eastern Michigan
Next Opp: Wyoming
Michigan State obliterated Eastern Michigan early and as a result we did not see a whole game from Cook. He scored in the air and ground and it was enough for the head coach to rest him the rest of the game. Cook is looking more and more like a polished player gaining momentum to enter the NFL draft. He plays from various formations; under the center, and shotgun. This could be the guy teams will want if he keeps playing at a high level. Michigan State has been putting out NFL QBs in recent years: Drew Stanton; Kirk Cousins; Brian Hoyer.
– Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State 6-4, 235lbs (redshirt sophomore)
Suspended entire game vs Clemson
Next Opp: NC State
Well Winston is off to a roller coaster season, and it could get interesting for him the rest of the way. Winston has originally been suspended for just the 1st half against Clemson, but Florida State’s AD decided to take it to the next level and suspended him the whole game at the last minute.
The next game will be against fellow ACC rival NC State and this could be a trap game. NC State is 4-0 and unranked. Winston will need to show he can come off a week of not playing and put in a good game. To me, if Winston enter’s the draft his antics will scare off teams and will probably be Manziel of the 2015 draft if he declares and he’ll probably fall in the draft. Teams are becoming more cognoscente of player’s character especially in light of recent black eyes on the league from Hardy, Rice, and Peterson.
– Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon 6-5, 218lbs (redshirt junior)
21/25 329 5 TD 0 INT vs. Washington
Next Opp: BYE WEEK
Mariota is still lighting it up in the air and he will make plays with his legs too, he’s complete, and still likely the top prospect should he enter the 2015 draft. Washington did not rollover and actually made this a very competitive game and we got to see Mariota with some adversity and go out and make scoring drives. Good game by Mariota. They have a bye week this week.
– Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA 6-3, 223lbs (redshirt junior)
BYE Week
Next Opp: @ Arizona State (Thurs)
Hundley’s status for Thursday’s game was murky, but it was just announced he will start against Arizona State. Hundley suffered an non-throwing elbow injury against Texas, so we’ll see how he holds up against a very active Arizona State defense. This will be a game scouts will be watching closely tonight. Can Hundley play well despite the injury, and will he be effective. If Hundley can put in a complete game against another ranked team, on the road, then it’ll be a nice feather in his hat when looking at his body of work this season.
– Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor 6-3, 230lbs (redshirt senior)
BYE Week
Next Opp: @Iowa State
Petty was able to get in some rest on his back last week, and he should have another offensive mauling against Iowa State this week. Petty will be an interesting prospect for the 2015 draft. Some will point out he could be a system QB, and RGIII’s recent struggles in the NFL may highlight this. It’ll be Petty’s job to win the headline games, not just the easier opponents. We saw what happened to Baylor is their Bowl game last year. Petty and Co. could not beat out Blake Bortles. For me, if Baylore stays the course for a headliner Bowl game he’ll need to put in a solid game and win that game.
Sleeper QB to Watch: Sean Mannion, QB, Oregon State 6-5, 220lbs (redshirt senior)
