2015 QB Class to Watch – Week Two

-3

Week Two of College Football is in the bag, so I want to keep the updates coming on some potential quarterbacks that could be in the 2015 draft. Could 2015 be the year the Cowboys finally smarten up and draft a QB in the 1st round? Let’s take a look at this past week’s games and performances.

– Kevin Hogan, QB, Stanford 6-4 , 228lbs (redshirt junior)

22/30 285 0 TD 0 INT vs. USC
Next Opp: Army

Kevin had a solid game against USC, but the offense stalled in the redzone and a few missed field goals cemented Stanford’s defeat. More on the game here.
– Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State 6-4, 210lbs (redshirt junior)

29/47 343 2 TD 2 INT vs. Oregon
Next Opp: Eastern Michigan

Cook started the game on fire and looked like he was ready for a signature statement game on the road, but the second half was their unraveling. Cook had problems adjusting to Oregon’s cover-2, later saying they have not seen much cover-2. If Cook is going to be a player in the NFL, he better be able to make those reads and figure how to beat that coverage. More on the game here.

– Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State 6-4, 235lbs (redshirt sophomore)

22/27 256 2 TD 0 INT vs. Citadel
Next Opp: Clemson

As expected, Winston had a near perfect game against a inferior opponent, so not much to say on his game here. Too easy.  Winston continues to make his case for the Heisman trophy. More on the matchup here.

– Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon 6-5, 218lbs (redshirt junior)

17/28 318 3 TD 0 INT vs. Michigan State
Next Opp: Wyoming

The more games Mariota gets under his belt, the more he looks like the real deal. Perhaps his biggest defensive test of the year was against the highly touted Spartans, and he carved them up. Mariota was impressive in attacking a pro-style defense headlined by Shilique Calhoun. More on the big game here.

More on Mariota handling the Spartan defense here (good read)

– Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA 6-3, 223lbs (redshirt junior)

33/44 396 3 TD 1 INT vs Memphis
Next Opp: @Texas (ATT Stadium)

If Hundley enters the draft his name will be attached to the Cowboys based soley on the school he comes from – UCLA. Hundley is no Aikman, but he has some athletic tools that may make him a commodity in today’s NFL. One thing is for sure, the scouts will be on hand for this game, and I wonder if Jerry will be too. The game against the Longhorns will be in ATT Stadium. More on Hundley’s last game here.

Cam 2.0? Texas coach is making the comparison for this weeks game, not sure that is a compliment or not, see what you think here.
– Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor 6-3, 230lbs (redshirt senior)

Injured, Did not play
Next Opp: Buffalo

Coach Briles says Petty is healthy and ready for this coming week’s game. Buffalo is not a big program, so we should see Petty destroy Buffalo. What we’ll want to see is how he performs as he recovers from his back issue. Read up on the upcoming game here!

Sleeper QB to Watch: Sean Mannion, QB, Oregon State 6-5, 220lbs (redshirt senior)

Of these players, who do you like at the next level? Who would fit the best in Dallas?
