Georgia RB Nick Chubb likely done for season after knee injury

Standout sophomore running back Nick Chubb suffered a devastating knee injury in the Bulldogs’ upset loss against Tennessee Saturday, all but certainly leaving Georgia without their most potent weapon for the rest of the season. Chubb will have surgery on his knee within two weeks. While Chubb damaged multiple ligaments and cartilage in his knee, the long-term prognosis is surprisingly positive: Chubb’s ACL was not torn or even strained and there was no nerve damage. While Chubb is expected to eventually recover from the injury, the loss of Georgia’s offensive focal point coupled with two back-to-back losses may have sunk the Bulldogs’ playoff hopes. Next week Georgia will begin their attempt to salvage their season against Missouri next week.

Florida QB Will Grier Suspended for the Year after Positive PED test

Florida’s Will Grier has been suspended by the NCAA for a year after a positive PED test, Gators head coach Jim McElwain told reporters today. Grier said he took an over-the-counter supplement which contained a substance banned by the NCAA, something Grier said he was not aware of until now. The freshman starting quarterback has played a key role in the surprising 6-0 start for Florida, throwing for 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns against three interceptions. As the suspension stands now, Grier will not be eligible until the seventh game of the 2016 season, and a second suspension will ban Grier from NCAA competition permanently. McElwain said the school will appeal the suspension and Grier will continue to practice with the team this season.

USC Loses Key Member of Offensive Line During Loss to Washington

USC’s loss to an unranked Washington University did not just cost them their spot in the top 25 rankings; they also lost their top offensive lineman for the remainder of the season. Center Max Turek tore a ligament in his knee in the loss and will miss the remainder of the season. The senior had started 38 games in his career with USC and was a first-team All-American pick in the preseason. He is the second-best center among seniors eligible for the 2016 NFL Draft according to Optimum Scouting’s preseason rankings.

Auburn’s Tre’ Williams “probable” for return against Kentucky

After Duke Williams was dismissed from Auburn last week, the Tigers’ received some positive news for their upcoming matchup against Kentucky. Defensive coordinator Will Muschamp told reporters outside linebacker Tre Williams will be ready to return to the field Thursday. Williams suffered a knee injury during Aurburn’s loss to Mississippi State, which caused him to miss Auburn’s game Saturday against LSU. Muschamp did not comment on Williams’ injury otherwise, but Williams’ official status for the Thursday game was upgraded from questionable to probable. Williams is only a sophomore but is already drawing attention as a potential high pick once he becomes draft eligible.
