Wisconsin’s tradition of 1,000-yard rushers and record-setting running backs isn’t anything new to Badger fans or college football fans the nation over. However, they’ve done it without really hitting a home run on the recruiting trail.

I mean, when was the last time a top running back actually signed on the line and faxed in his national letter of intent to the Wisconsin football office? Even Corey Clement, who was a 4-star recruit, came in as an underrated back in his 2013 recruiting class (No. 16 in the 247Sports composite rankings).

However, that appears to be changing a bit over the past few years and come the 2016 class it could be swinging completely in their favor.

That’s because 2016 Top 247 running back Antonio Williams has the Badgers as his leader in his recruitment. On Tuesday he released his top six schools, with the Badgers at the very top of his list.

Williams is one of the top backs in the 2016 class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He comes in as the No. 119-ranked player in the class, the No. 9-ranked running back and the No. 3-ranked player out of his native North Carolina.

Over the summer, Williams was making it known he wanted a Wisconsin offer and he got one. However, some were questioning the seriousness of the situation given his commitment at the time to North Carolina.

Since then, the top running back has decommitted and now has a new group of leaders that includes the Badgers at the top once again. Williams has also set up an unofficial visit for the Badgers’ homecoming game against Maryland on Oct. 25.

Could he be ready to commit to Wisconsin after that visit? It’s something to keep an eye on in the next month.
