Iowa cornerback Desmond King could be a fit for Eagles

Northwestern v Iowa

The college football season is slowly coming to an end, which means bowl season is approaching and before you know it, the NFL draft will be here.

For teams such as the Philadelphia Eagles, the 2017 draft will be important for them as they try to sure up key positions across the board at wide receiver, offensive line, cornerback, and etc. Out of the three positions listed, NFL.com’s Draft Analyst Chad Reuter believes that Iowa senior cornerback Desmond King is a good fit for the Eagles.

Reuter listed his NFL team fits for the top 10 senior prospects, which included the standout cornerback from Iowa.

Here’s what Reuter had to say about King:

“The Eagles have given up more than their fair share of big plays through the air this season. King will be an instant starter because he’s not afraid to mix it up with any receiver.”

Reuter makes an excellent point as we’ve seen throughout this season; the Eagles cornerbacks get torched by opposing teams’ wide receivers. Currently, the Eagles do not have a stud cornerback right now and King could be that cornerback as he has good size; standing at 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds and is a ballhawk.

Last season as a junior, King had an amazing year, compiling 72 total tackles, 13 pass deflections, and eight interceptions. King’s eight interceptions was second in the NCAA but also netted him the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes to the most outstanding defensive back.

This season; however, King’s numbers have dropped just a tad bit as he only has 52 total tackles, seven pass deflections and two interceptions.

Despite the drop in numbers, King is a dynamic player, who the Eagles can plug in day one as their starter. He would be an upgrade over Leodis McKelvin and Jalen Mills.
