New Blue – Bryce Lampman
As we all have been waiting for, the Blues have finally signed a defenseman. But, it was certainly not a name on our radar. St. Louis signed 26-year-old Bryce Lampman to a deal today. Terms were not disclosed on the contract. Lampman played last season in Russia for Amur Khabarovsk and is the latest to be signed by the St. Louis Blues.
No, Bryce Lampman is not the answer to our questions at defense. Odds are, Lampman was signed to bring some depth to the AHL club, without making an NHL impact this season.
So what do we know about this guy? Frankly, not much. He only has 10 games at the NHL level under his belt with the New York Rangers who selected him 113th overall in the 2001 entry draft. Note that these 10 career games did not come all in the same year, but rather eight in 2003-04, one in 2005-06 and one in 2006-07. He then moved on to play in Russia for a team nobody around here can pronounce.
While this is a signing to point out (as any news with the Blues is here at this blog), it is not going to change anything heading into the 2009-10 season. It is still possible the Blues will add a veteran defender to their ranks prior to the season, and there are several guys still out there that fit that bill.
