A couple weeks back, I posted this thing about the Atlanta Braves honoring Greg Maddux with a monument.
Thanks to, coincidentally, a post about Braves phenom Jason Heyward, the poll question “What number should be unveiled next in Turner Field’s Monument Grove?” blew up!
After 371 votes (that’s a Hall record, by the way)…here’s the results:
- Bobby Cox – 196 (52%)
- Tom Glavine – 87 (23%)
- John Smoltz – 49 (13%)
- Chipper Jones – 22 (5%)
- Biff Pocoroba – 17 (4%)
I understand Bobby Cox…I do. One. Hundred. Percent.
Glavine and Smoltz…yup, I’m right there with you.
Frankly, the poll shook out exactly how I thought it would…top to bottom. However, how is Biff Pocoroba only five votes behind Chipper Jones? I mean, either people hate Jones or TOTALLY get the Pocoroba reference.
Two quick fun facts about Pocoroba.
One…he was named the third back up (behind starter Ted Simmons) on the 1978 National League All-Star team. The other two catchers? Bob Boone and Hall of Famer Johnny Bench.
Two…”Biff” is not a nickname, but his given name. Thanks Wikipedia!
