Friday 5: Closer Music

Hey gang, it’s me…your old friend “Disappointed”.

Last week, after Mariano Rivera locked down save number 600, the story behind his entrance music hit the interwebs.

“I didn’t pick the song. I don’t pay attention to the music,” Rivera said of the iconic Metallica track “Enter Sandman”.  When I go in there, I’m going to business. I have a job to do, that’s it.”

Seriously?

C’mon, Mariano…how’s about you let some of us think that you waltzed into the pressbox Milton Bradley-style and demanded that some metal be played when you came into the game.

Would that be too much to ask?

Well, coincidence or not…Eric Freeman from the A.V. Club did some research on closer’s music.  He broke down what it takes to select effective entrance music and included five of his favorites.

Here you go:

Trevor Hoffman:  “Hell’s Bells”

Brian Wilson:  “Jump Around”
John Axford:  New Noise”
Chris Perez:  “Firestarter”
Jonathan Papelbon:  “I’m Shipping Up to Boston”

So what would yours be?  I always thought I would go with Metallica’s “For the Whom the Bell Tolls”…but, lately, I’m leaning my toward the Faith No More and Boo-Ya T.R.I.B.E.’s collarborative effort “Another Body Murdered”.
