Yesterday, it was announced that three defensive players were granted medical hardship waivers by the NCAA. This will extend the years of eligibility for each player. The list includes 2 starters and a a key member at defensive end.
The 3 key Gamecocks are –
LB Rodney Paulk
DT Travian Robertson
DE Chaz Sutton
This is wonderul news for the Gamecocks and I am sure this made Spurrier do a birthday dance this week. Each player above will play a huge role for the Gamecocks going forward not only for their abilities on the field but it helps depth and leadership. Having Paulk at LB is going to be a great thing as we saw good things from him before tearing his ACL. Same for T Rav as he too is a “big nasty” up front that can help Ladi plug the middle. Then there is Chaz who is very promising at DE and adds great depth there.
Addison Williams was also granted a medical hardship but will not be counted towards the 85 scholarship limit. He will serve as a student coach this year. He is a great kid and hope this new role finds him success.
