Berglund Matches Last Season’s Point Total

Back on December 23rd, I wrote an article about how Patrik Berglund was having an improved statistical performance this season when compared to last season. I mentioned how his point-per-game pace had improved, and while he may not everyone’s expectations, he is contributing to the offense. Now, with a large chunk of the season left to be played, Berglund already has 26 points to his name – matching his quiet performance in all of 2009-10.

With 46 games under his belt this season, Berglund has scored 10 goals and added 16 assists for a total of 26 points. By comparison, over the course of 71 games last season, Berglund managed just 13 goals and 13 assists.

Expectations were large on the youngster after his rookie campaign where he scored 21 goals and 26 helpers, but then he failed to meet those in his second year. This season, Berglund is coming back to form.

The Blues have struggled in most offensive categories, but Berglund is one skater that appears to be finally hitting his stride. Of course, TJ Oshie’s return on his line should only help his offensive production, but Berglund deserves plenty of credit as well.

Heading into tonight’s game against Columbus, Berglund is riding a four-game point streak. During that time, he has tallied two goals and three assists.

This isn’t a lengthy dissertation on Berglund’s year, but just a shoutout to a player that is taking steps to regain his form we saw in his rookie season. With many Blues attempting to recapture earlier magic (cough, Brad Boyes, cough), we can at least give some credit to a player that is making positive strides.
