According to The Boston Globe…Tim Wakefield is calling it quits after 19 seasons in the bigs. The 45-year-old knuckleballer ends his career 200-180 with a 4.41 ERA.
After 17 years with the Boston Red Sox, Wakefield sits third in team history for victories (186), trailing only Cy Young and Roger Clemens, who each had 192. He is also second in wins at Fenway Park with 97 trailing Clemens, again, who has 100.
This past season, Wakefield was 7-8 with a 5.12 ERA in 33 games 23 of them starts. Along the way, he joined Hall of Famer Walter Johnson as the only two pitchers in American League history with at least four wins and 125 or more innings in 17 consecutive seasons.
