On Monday night, the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Washington Redskins by a score of 33-27. There were many good things, but also a few bad things that you can take out of the game.
Good Things:
- Lesean McCoy’s performance: Lesean McCoy had an amazing game on Monday night; he rushed for 184 yards on 31 carries. His moves were amazing on Monday night. He did so well, it was great to see. I am really hoping that he can do that well all season. I think he is a legitimate MVP candidate.
- Michael Vick’s performance: Michael Vick was named the opening night starter a few weeks ago, and he made it look like a great decision on Monday night. He threw 25 passes and completed 15 of them, and threw for 203 yards. That’s pretty darn good. Both him, the wide receivers, and Shady McCoy did well on Monday night. The offense looks very promising.
These are the best things I saw during the game on Monday night. The offense was extremely impressive; they got McCoy a lot of carries and Vick still got to throw a lot. Great to see the running and passing game being effective on the same night. Now let’s get into the bad things.
Bad Things:
- The Defense: The Eagles defense was extremely sharp in the first half of the game, holding the Redskins scoreless (The Skins scored their only first half touchdown on a fumble). The same can not be said about the second half. The Eagles defense gave up 20 points in the second half, which was very disappointing after seeing them do so well in the first half. Robert Griffin the third was pretty rusty in the first half because it was his first action of the season (including the preseason), but the second half was all him. The Eagles almost blew the game in the second half; they were up 33-7, and the final score of the game was 33-27. That’s way too close. The defense really let us all down in the second half of that game. They were lucky to get a win.
- RGIII was rusty and the Eagles still almost lost: The Eagles and the Redskins went into the game expecting RGIII to be a bit rusty, but the Red skins figured he would be good enough. Well in the first half he did terribly, and the Eagles were blowing the Redskins out. Well, it appears that during halftime he shook off all of the rust, and turned the game around completely. He almost lead a huge comeback in the second half; it would’ve been a legendary comeback, one of the greatest anyone has ever seen. This really scares me, because what if RGIII wasn’t rusty to begin the game? What if he had been completely ready, and used to playing competitively in the NFL again? There is no doubt in my mind that the Eagles would’ve lost that game by 20+ if RGIII was really ready for that game.
As you can see, there were many good things from the game and many bad things that you can take out of the game. In a nutshell, the Eagles were really lucky to win this game, but it was awesome to get a win on opening night. Also, Congratulations to Eagles new head coach Chip Kelly on the first win of his NFL head coaching career!
Dear, Eagles fans: Congratulations on getting your win on Monday Night Football on opening night, but the Eagles got lucky. In other words, don’t get too cocky because it will come back and bite you in the butt sometime this season.
