Player of the Game
Danny Salazar (.118 WPA) is the Player of the Game. He pitched well but not well enough.
Feathers Up
Salazar pitched a solid game as his split/change-up was working to his advantage especially ahead in the count. He only made one mistake in the top of the second: a fastball he tried to sneak by Norichika Aoki which went for a triple. He set down 11 in a row at one point, faced 28 batters and 70 of his 114 pitches were for strikes. He struck out seven, walked three and gave up two earned runs.
Indians pitchers (Salazar, Detwiler, Manship) held the Mariners bats hitless after Aoki’s triple.
Jason Kipnis had the only RBI for the Indians; a sacrifice fly that scored Tyler Naquin in the bottom of the third. Juan Uribe doubled on a line drive to left to begin the inning. Uribe is now 6-14 with two doubles, an RBI, 4 walks and a run scored in his last five games.
Feathers Down
The Mariners got on the scoreboard first in the top of the second. It started when the first two hitters got on base: Adam Lind singled to center followed by a walk to Chris Iannetta. Two batters later, Norichika Aoki lined a ball down the right field line. As the ball reached the outfield wall, rightfielder Lonnie Chisenhall had a tough time handling the ball and picking it up. That allowed Lind to score from first and Aoki to reach third base. It was offically ruled a triple but could have easily been a double and an error.
Uribe walked in the bottom of the seventh and was lifted for pinch runner Rajai Davis who was promptly picked off of first by Mariners pitcher Joel Peralta, ending the inning and the mini rally.
Final Score: Cleveland Indians 1 – Seattle Mariners 2
