Blues Sign Jamie Langenbrunner

The St. Louis Blues have reached a one-year deal with Jamie Langenbrunner, as reported by Jeremy Rutherford. Langenbrunner, a free agent, skated in 70 games for the Blues in 2011-12, scoring six goals while contributing 18 assists. Langenbrunner’s signing answers one question – will Langenbrunner return – but it fails to answer the team’s need for another scoring forward.

Consider this signing one that brings leadership and experience as opposed to actual production. Blues fans are familiar with what Langenbrunner brings to the table. His days of scoring 20+ goals and 60+ points appear to be a distant memory. What’s left is a veteran that is as classy as they come. On the ice, he still works hard and makes smart hockey plays. He knows where to position himself to make the most of his declining skills. Off the ice, Langenbrunner is a great mentor for the young skaters wearing the Note.

Langenbrunner’s signing is a nice one but it isn’t one that’s going to solve any problems. The Blues still need a new face up front that can assist the offense. Langenbrunner will work hard but as we saw last year, he won’t be doing much offensively barring a remarkable rebound.
