You know who I really feel sorry for?
The two Cardinals fans that got plucked off the AP photo wire for Deadspin’s semi-regular trolling of ‘The Nation’.
I just went on Facebook. Every other post is about Drew Magary’s article called “The Mayor Of St. Louis Is A Dipshit”. You can read the whole article; it’s funny.
But of course a large group of you are butthurt. So you’re blogging about it, Tweeting about it, FB’ing it… and all the while, Deadspin has another column that’s surpassed the 100K view mark in a matter of hours.
If you’re really angry at him (side note – you shouldn’t be, he’s one a few comedy writers out there that can make people laugh out loud), then skip the post. I promise you he’ll move on if enough people don’t pay attention.
Anyway.
That random couple. They’re the face of this article. All over social media. All they did was get up at a game and cheer. Now here they are… unwittingly the face of STL trolling.
Not the best way to start off their playoff run. For the rest you guys? I’ve got 5 bold predictions that will happen over the next week to cheer you up.
1: Clayton Kershaw is going to get hammered.
On the field. Like 5 runs in 3 innings hammered. Maybe not in GM1, but in this series, he’s going to get run and everyone is going to have their maws hanging open wondering how the Birds did him rotten… again.
2: Peter Bourjos is going to hit a home run.
Pete has had a weird first year in St. Louis. From the next coming of Jimmy Baseball to Jon Jay’s towel boy – he’s been all over the board. But he’s got a little magic for the Dodgers. Just wait and see.
3: Trevor Rosenthal will have 7 strikeouts.
Not 6. Not 8.
7.
4: Joe Buck is going to slip up and be accused of homerism by LA.
Tonight’s call will mean that a Buck has called at least one game in 54 consecutive seasons of Cardinals baseball. He’s been pretty down the middle since 2011. Tonight is the night he slips up and lets America know he really is a Cardinals guy.
5: Friday’s game between the Dodgers and Cardinals becomes the highest rated program in the network’s history.
Ever.
It’s not a long list they’ve got to beat. But they’re going to do it.
